Why labels make a network predictable.
In a normal IP network, every router along the path opens the packet header and decides where to send it next. MPLS attaches a short label at the edge of the carrier network; the core routers then forward on that label alone, along a path the carrier engineers in advance. The result is deterministic routing rather than best-effort.
That determinism is what makes class of service possible. Your voice, video, ERP and bulk traffic are placed in separate queues with different guarantees, so a backup job cannot starve a call. On a plain internet VPN, everything competes equally and quality is whatever the public internet happens to allow that minute.
The trade-off is cost and agility. A branch MPLS circuit typically costs three to five times an equivalent internet circuit, and adding a new site can take four to twelve weeks. That is precisely why most Indian enterprises now keep MPLS at the sites that need it and move the rest to SD-WAN.

We define the queues — real-time voice, interactive business, default, bulk — mark traffic at the CE router and validate with synthetic tests that the carrier is honouring the marking end to end.
Carrier tendering and contract review
We write the RFP, normalise the bids, and read the SLA clauses that matter: how downtime is measured, what excludes a claim, and how much credit you actually recover for a full-day outage.
Backup path and graceful degradation
Every MPLS site gets a secondary path — broadband, ILL or 4G/5G — with routing that fails over automatically and prioritises correctly on the smaller pipe when it does.
